Crypto Alerts: Never Miss a Market Move Again

Published April 4, 2026 · Reading time: 8 min

The crypto market never sleeps. Bitcoin can drop 10% overnight, Ethereum can surge during your lunch break, and an altcoin can hit your target price while you're in a meeting. Without a reliable alert system, you inevitably miss opportunities — or worse, you fail to react quickly enough to a bearish move threatening your portfolio.

Crypto alerts automate market monitoring for you. Instead of compulsively refreshing prices, you set your thresholds once, and the app notifies you at the right moment, on the right channel. This guide explains how to get the most out of the alerts available in KRYPTFOLIO, from simple price alerts to technical Smart Alerts based on RSI and moving averages.

1. Why alerts are essential

The crypto market operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Unlike stock markets that close evenings and weekends, cryptocurrencies keep moving at all times. This creates a unique challenge for investors: it is physically impossible to monitor your positions continuously.

Historical data shows that the most significant moves often happen outside business hours. The May 2021 crash started on a Sunday evening. The January 2024 rally accelerated on a Saturday morning. Investors who had configured alerts were able to react within minutes. Others discovered the damage on Monday morning.

A good alert system transforms your investment strategy. Instead of trading on emotion while watching real-time prices, you make rational decisions in advance: “If BTC drops below $55,000, I buy more,” “If ETH breaks $4,000, I take profits.” The alert triggers the planned action — no panic, no FOMO.

2. Available alert types

Classic price alerts

This is the simplest and most commonly used type. You set a price threshold — above or below the current price — and get notified as soon as that threshold is crossed. For example:

  • Alert above: “Notify me when BTC exceeds $75,000” — useful for detecting a breakout or confirming a bullish trend
  • Alert below: “Notify me when ETH drops below $3,000” — ideal for entry points or mental stop-losses

KRYPTFOLIO supports price alerts on over 500 cryptocurrencies. Each alert fires once to avoid spam, then deactivates automatically. You can create new ones in seconds.

Technical Smart Alerts

Smart Alerts go far beyond a simple price threshold. They leverage technical analysis indicators calculated in real time to detect signals that are often invisible to the naked eye:

  • RSI oversold (< 30): the Relative Strength Index indicates the asset is potentially undervalued. Historically, this is an attractive buying zone. The alert triggers when the 14-period RSI drops below 30
  • RSI overbought (> 70): the opposite signal — the asset is potentially overvalued. May indicate a good time to take profits
  • Moving average crossover (SMA): when the short SMA (e.g., 20-day) crosses the long SMA (e.g., 50-day), it signals a trend change. Bullish crossover = potential buy signal. Bearish crossover = potential sell signal
  • Support and resistance: the algorithm detects key levels where the price has historically bounced. When the price approaches a support or resistance level, you receive an alert

Volume alerts

A sudden spike in trading volume often precedes a significant price move. Volume alerts detect an abnormal increase in activity on an asset — for example, volume 3 times higher than the 7-day average. This is an early signal that “something is happening” on that asset, even before the price moves visibly.

3. Notification channels

Receiving an alert is useless if you don't see it in time. KRYPTFOLIO offers three complementary notification channels to fit your habits:

  • Email: ideal for non-urgent alerts or summaries. The email contains the current price, the crossed threshold, and a direct link to your portfolio
  • Browser push: instant notification on your computer or smartphone (even if the KRYPTFOLIO tab is closed). Perfect for price alerts and critical Smart Alerts
  • Telegram: instant notifications in your messaging app. Connect your account via the @KryptfolioBot in one click. This is the preferred channel for active traders since Telegram is always open

You can enable a single channel or combine them. Most active users use push + Telegram for price alerts, and email for weekly summaries.

4. How to configure alerts effectively

Having alerts is great. Configuring them intelligently is better. Here are the best practices to avoid notification overload and get truly useful signals.

Don't create too many alerts

The most common mistake is creating dozens of alerts at nearby thresholds. If BTC is at $68,000, alerts at $67,500, $67,000, and $66,500 will all fire during the same bearish candle. Focus on truly significant levels: major supports, historical resistances, price targets tied to your strategy.

Rule of thumb: 3 to 5 price alerts per asset maximum (1-2 upside, 1-2 downside, 1 on a key technical level).

Combine price + RSI for better signals

A price alert alone tells you nothing about the technical context. BTC hitting $60,000 with an RSI at 25 (oversold) is a very different scenario from BTC at $60,000 with an RSI at 55 (neutral). By combining both alert types, you get much more reliable signals:

  • Price alert below $60,000 + Smart Alert RSI < 30 = high-conviction buy zone
  • Price alert above $80,000 + Smart Alert RSI > 70 = profit-taking zone

Leverage support and resistance

Support and resistance levels are the pillars of technical analysis. Set alerts at these levels to be notified when the price approaches a decision zone. A bounce off confirmed support is a classic buy signal. A resistance breakout is a breakout signal.

KRYPTFOLIO automatically detects historical support and resistance levels. Enable the corresponding Smart Alert and let the algorithm work for you.

5. Free vs Pro alerts: what changes

KRYPTFOLIO's free plan includes the essentials to get started:

  • Free plan: up to 3 active price alerts, email notifications only
  • Pro plan: unlimited price alerts, access to Smart Alerts (RSI, SMA, support/resistance, volume), push + Telegram notifications, multi-asset alerts

For a beginner investor with 2-3 cryptos in their portfolio, the free plan is more than enough. But as soon as you diversify or look for advanced technical signals, the Pro plan becomes essential. At 6.99 EUR/month (or 59.99 EUR/year), it's a minimal investment compared to the potential gains a well-placed alert can protect.

FAQ — Crypto alerts

How many alerts can I create?

The free plan allows up to 3 simultaneous active price alerts. The Pro plan offers unlimited alerts, including technical Smart Alerts (RSI, SMA, support/resistance) and volume alerts.

Do alerts work in real time?

Yes. Prices are checked every minute from multiple sources (Binance, CoinCap, CoinGecko). As soon as your threshold is crossed, the notification is sent immediately via your chosen channel (email, push, or Telegram).

Can I receive alerts on Telegram?

Absolutely. Connect your Telegram account in seconds from the Notifications tab in Settings. You'll receive your alerts directly in your Telegram messages, even if the KRYPTFOLIO app isn't open.

What's the difference between a price alert and a Smart Alert?

A price alert fires when the price crosses a fixed threshold (e.g., BTC > $75,000). A Smart Alert uses technical indicators calculated in real time — oversold/overbought RSI, moving average crossovers, support/resistance levels — to detect specific market configurations. Smart Alerts provide more precise signals because they account for the overall technical context.
